This Week's Drawing: Squigs Meets Shakespeare... In the Park!

The debut of Broadway.com's new resident artist, Justin 'Squigs' Robertson, continues this week with a nod to one of the theatrical events of the year: the return of The Public's Shakespeare in the Park. The New York City institution officially opened its first repertory season in nearly 20 years on June 30, kicking off a summer that will alternate performances of The Merchant of Venice with The Winter's Tale, which share a stellar ensemble of actors. This year's park-worthy stars include Al Pacino as Merchant's famed Shylock (that'd be him with the crazy brows to the right), Ruben Santiago-Hudson as The Winter's Tale angsty King Leontes (clockwise from Pacino), stunner Linda Emond as his Winter's Tale's slighted Queen of Sicilia, original Rent-er Jesse L. Martin in a stately stage return, Academy Award nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste flexing dramatic chops...even fan favorite and current Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson clowning around. The only thing missing from Squig's perfect picture? The massive line of people you'll have to join to catch these stars (for free!) at the Delacorte Theatre through August 1.

About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
